Graduated as Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1992 (Ghent University, UGent). After obtaining her PhD in 1997 in the field of bio-analysis of residues of veterinary drugs in food, she conducted post-doc research at the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UGent). In 2004, she was appointed as assistant professor of veterinary toxicology at the same faculty. Since 2014, she is full professor and currently director of the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Biochemistry. She is responsible lecturer for the courses General Pharmacology (3rd Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine) and Veterinary Toxicology (1st Master in Veterinary Medicine), and co-promoter of the international Chair ‘Poultry Health Sciences’.
Her research in the field of veterinary toxicology focuses on the toxicokinetics and toxicokinetic modeling of mycotoxins, on the interactions between mycotoxins and pathogens in several animal species, and on the development of in vitro and in vivo models for efficacy and safety testing of mycotoxin detoxifiers. Her research group is member of the MYTOX and MYTOX-SOUTH association research platforms (www.mytox.be; www.mytoxsouth.org), dealing with the effects of mycotoxins on human and animal health in the North and South.
Prof. Siska Croubels is associate member of the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology (ECVPT) and external expert for the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain, Belgian Superior Health Council and Belgian Centre for Pharmacotherapeutic Information. She is member of the Ghent University Research Council, Industrial Research Fund and of scientific committees of several international conferences. She also serves as editorial board member for Mycotoxin Research. She is manager of the GLP unit of the department dealing with pharmacokinetic, bio-equivalence and residue studies of drugs.
Prof. Siska Croubels is author and co-author of 250 peer-reviewed international A1-publications and was promoter of 24 doctoral theses in the field of veterinary pharmacology and toxicology.
