Attended the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Agriculture and Agricultural Chemistry PhD program but left before completion. Worked as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Engineering at Osaka University, and as an associate professor in the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo. In 2018, moved to the Faculty of Science and Engineering of Teikyo University as a professor and dean of the Graduate School of Science and Engineering. Is current president of Japanese Society of Mycotoxicology. Specialty is bioorganic chemistry, especially focusing on bioactive metabolites of microbes and plants. Recent research topics are mycotoxin production inhibitors, chitinase inhibitors, and microbial signal molecules.
