Cees Waalwijk (h-index=39) is a molecular phytopathologist at Wageningen University and Research. He received his PhD in medical microbiology in 1984 at the Free University in Amsterdam. From 1983 to 1989 he worked as a postdoc at the former research institute ITAL and in 1990 he became head of the research group at the Institute for Plant Protection, IPO, that merged into Wageningen (University and) Research.

Since 1993, Cees has been PI of multiple (inter-) national projects with a focus on agronomically important Fusarium species, including pathogens of ornamental and vegetable crops. Since 1998 he has been occupied with toxigenic Fusaria in EU-projects across FP5, FP6, FP7 and H2020.

  • Comparative genomics
  • Diagnostics and biological control
